Frequently asked questions
Auto Glass FAQ
DOES MY WINDSHIELD NEED TO BE REPAIRED, OR REPLACED?
Most ‘dings’ or ‘chips’ can be repaired if the damage is smaller than the size of a silver dollar, including any cracks. This could save you and your insurance company hundreds of dollars. If the break is larger, it is recommended to be replaced.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO REPLACE MY WINDSHIELD?
That depends on the make and model of your vehicle. Because of the complexity of some vehicles, it could take as long as 3 hours but most vehicles require about an hour to properly install the windshield. Most installations takes 1 to 2 hours. Our staff can schedule installation over the phone and provide you with an accurate time estimate.
HOW SOON CAN I WASH MY VEHICLE?
It is recommended that you wait 24 hours before washing your vehicle. There are two reasons for this. First, the high pressure from automatic car washes can damage the seal and outer molding before the urethane has a chance to cure sufficiently. Secondly, it’s important to leave at least one of your windows open at least an inch to reduce the pressurization in the vehicle when the doors are shut. This prevents the pressure inside the cabin from blowing a hole in the urethane seal, causing an air or water leak. Water on the windshield is not the concern.
IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE WINDSHIELD AND OTHER GLASS IN THE CAR?
Windshield glass is a special glass made of Laminated Safety Glass. It is constructed in special way and designed for optimum safety in the event of a crash. It is made up of two pieces of glass with a thin layer of vinyl in between.
IS AUTO GLASS COVERED UNDER MY INSURANCE?
There are three types of insurance coverage: Comprehensive, Collision, Liability. Typically comprehensive insurance covers auto glass repair and replacement, you will only need to pay the deductible.
